Couscous Mind: Expanding Slam into Song

Her first collaborative project, Couscous Mind, created with Hamza Harris, represents a pivotal moment in her artistic trajectory. It demonstrates how slam can extend into song while maintaining the precision and honesty that define poetry.

The lyrics are layered and introspective, moving seamlessly between French and Arabic. Lines such as:

“Camarade, je fais l’effort, vois-tu? Il faut de l’effort même pour la bêtise… j’ai fait semblant toute ma vie…”

reflect an acute awareness of personal and social pressures, the tension between appearance and reality, and the persistent effort required simply to exist authentically. The Arabic refrains, subtle yet resonant, interact with electro-pop textures that never overwhelm but instead enhance the emotional landscape.

En Tandem, released with The Local Sessions, is quieter, slower, and more meditative than Couscous Mind. It examines the cycles of life and relationships: endings, beginnings, and the delicate space between presence and absence. The lyrics, such as:

“Y’a pas de fins tristes, que des mauvais départs… je pense à toi donc tu existes, pourtant toi tu ne me vois plus…”

invite reflection rather than resolution. There is no rush to explain, no pressure to close the narrative; instead, the song creates a space where ambiguity and emotion coexist. Spoken word and melody are interwoven carefully, each enhancing the other while leaving room for silence and contemplation.
